Our Beloved Prophet

We were so surprised last night to hear of the death of President Hinckley. I think many of us knew it was coming but were still surprised when it happened. We saw it on the news around 8 last night. I called my sister and told her to turn on the news, and then I called my parents in Uruguay to tell them, even though it was 1am there. My initial reaction was, NO! Mostly because I will miss him, his words of wisdom and his wit and because he has been the Prophet more than half my life, during my teenage years, all throughout college, etc. Zack was with me when I saw the breaking news and asked what was going on. I was saddened too, to realize that my children won't know what an exceptional man he was. Matt was explaining to Zack that President Hinckley had died and Zack said, "That's okay Dad, when the Prophet dies, Heavenly Father sends us a new one." After just a few seconds of sadness I began to feel so at peace, thinking of the joyful reunions he must be experiencing. I don't think that I am alone in wanting to re-commit to "Stand a little taller, be a little kinder....," in order to honor our beloved Prophet.

Correction. Okay, I can not count, President Hinckley has not been the Prophet for more than half my life, that would make me like super young and hip which I defientely am not. I was fifteen when he became the Prophet, which makes me (gulp) twenty-eight. But just barely! Okay not just barely but whatever, who's counting?

Well he was the prophet my whole life.

oh, it bothers me when the comment I write doesn't post!! I will try it again.

I loved what Zack said about a new prophet, because it is exactly right, and the best way to look at it. I am happy for President Hinckley, and being reunited with his loved ones!
