Zack the provoked bully

Today I picked Zack up at the bus stop and we started walking home together. I asked him how his day was and he said, "Good, except for recess." I asked why. Now I will replay our entire conversation so you can relive my bewilderment.

Me: What happened at recess?
Z: The fast girl cut me.
Me: What?!?
Z: The fast girl cut me.
(I then inspect his knuckle, which is slightly skinned and bloody and covered with a band-aid).
Me: Who is the fast girl? ( I was kinda hoping my boys wouldn't be running into any fast girls until at least junior high.)
Z: I don't know.
Me: Is she in your class?
Z: No, a different class.
Me: Well, what did she cut you with?
Z: I don't know.
Me: Why did she cut you?
Z: Cause I was fighting her.
Me: WHAT?!?!??!?!?!?!?!
Z: We were fighting.
Me: You do not fight with girls!
Z: Why?
Me: Because that is not respectful. We treat all girls with respect. Do you fight with Meg? (his cousin) or do you see Daddy fight me?
Z: No.
Me: How did the fight start?
Z: Braxton tripped her and me and her and Ethan and Braxton all started fighting. (this whole time I am dying trying not to laugh.)
Me: Did you get in trouble?
Z: No. But the lady on the playground told us to stop. No fighting allowed.
(he felt really bad at this point and emphasized that I had never told him not to fight with girls, obviously an oversight on my part.)
Me: One more question. Why do you call her the fast girl?
Z: Because she runs really fast and I don't know her name.

***We ended the conversation by me telling him that he needs to apologize to the fast girl on Monday, and NEVER, NEVER fight girls again.****

Conversations With a Kindergartner

I have been asking Zack lots of questions about kindergarten over the past two weeks. Here is what he has told me:

Where do you sit? At the table by the door. It is called Table 1. There is also a table 4 and a table 2. And a table 3. There are four tables.

Who sits at your table? A boy I don't know and another boy I forget his name. And Maya. (Who is Maya?) A grill who is really pretty. (Grill, aka Girl is my favorite word that he mispronounces.)

What is your favorite thing about school? Recess. Riding the bus.

Have you ever gotten in trouble at school? Yeah. What did you do to get in trouble? Call out (talking with out raising his hand.) Imagine a child of mine talking too much :) And not finishing my work before recess.

Who did you play with at recess? One kid with glasses and another kid with glasses and Tucker. We play good police/bad police. Tucker is the king and I am the spy. I pretend to be bad, but I am really good. That's okay, right mom?

What does Mrs. Wright say when you speak without raising your hand? Zip your lips.

Having Zack in kindergarten is too fun. He has fun doing his homework and is always really excited to go in the morning and excited to get home to his toys in the afternoon. Today was picture day and he looked adorable. Except for the too short haircut I gave him last night. Oops. He'll live. :) I still can't believe I am old enough to have a child in school!!

Zack's First Day of School!

Holy cow, I can not believe I have child in school! Zack was so excited the night before. He was also really tired because we came home from a trip that evening. He went to bed really early and bounced out of bed the next morning. I, however was awake late, wondering if I have taught him enough, and all kinds of things. I was pretty sure I was going to cry that morning, but it was actually very anti-climatic. He was sooooooooooo excited! Here he is on his way: And off the bus after a morning of kindergarten! He had a great time and ran off the bus and hugged me and then Derek and gave Derek the raccoon necklace he had made that day. It was very cute.
He was exhausted that night, but ready to go back the next morning. It has been fun, because kindergarten is not even three hours. Austin naps most of the time and so Derek and I get to play, which has been really fun. I am so proud of Zack!

Back to School Night

I am taking Zack to Back to School Night in an hour. He will get to meet his teacher, Mrs. Wright, for the first time. I didn't think he really cared all that much, but he just came up to me and said, "Is Mrs. Wright beautiful?" I told him I didn't know what she looks like, because I haven't met her yet. I told him that she might look like a grandma and won't that be fun!! (I heard that she is older than a lot of the other teachers). He said, "Well, I just hope she is beautiful!" I was laughing so hard and so I asked him who he thinks is beautiful, he said, "Mom, (aunt) Jen, Tara, Meg (his cousin) and my grandmas." I can not stop laughing over this, I will let you know how it goes!!!

****Update******
Contrary to what I believed, Mrs Wright is only in her early thirties and she is a DOLL!! She was so happy and smiley, Zack loved her. Hurray!!!
