More Goblin Valley

On our way to Goblin Valley we stopped at the Payson Temple Open House.  It was gorgeous.  And Ellie didn't scream the whole time like she did at the Ogden Open House.  This was the best photo we could get.  All the other photos are of Ellie having a breakdown.  :)
We were planning on going to Goblin Valley with my parents, my sister and her family and my brother Dave and his family.  My parents had to back out a week or so before because of my dad's work travel schedule and the day before my sister backed out due to stomach flu rampaging through their family.  I had an extra campsite that had already been paid for, what to do?  I convinced/begged some friends in our ward who I KNEW wanted to go to Goblin Valley to go with us.  I don't know how they pulled it off on such short notice, but they did.  We had a great time with them and my brother and his family.
This was a popular climbing spot right behind my tent.  About an hour after we got there and finished setting up camp, Matt took our boys on a little hike.  It was a little bit of drive, so I expected them to be gone a while.  Soon after they left, a HUGE rainstorm hit, forcing the girls and me inside the tent where we remained for a few hours.  We read, ate snacks and caused all kinds of havoc inside the tent.  There was a huge amount of water flowing off the top of the tent.  After the storm, we discovered that water was flowing underneath the tent as well.  Red mud is not easy to clean off a tent after is has been drying for two days :)  Matt and the boys eventually came back, having never been able to get out of the car!
Climbing, climbing all day long.  Ellie and Syd loved playing with their cousin Claire.  Sydney loves to take care of little kids.
Off on our big hike Saturday morning.  My sister in law Lindsey is such a trooper, she is seven months pregnant and not a word of complaint!

The slot canyons are my favorite.

Fairly early into the hike Ellie fell and hit her forehead on a rock.  Lots of blood.  It has healed up okay, but we were not sure if she needed stitches (we were a long way from civilization) but it turned out okay.  Lesson learned, always bring super glue and butterfly bandages just in case.  Ellie was exhausted after her fall and lots of crying and fell asleep while we were having lunch.  She and I headed back to camp soon after this while the other kept hiking.

I made all the little kids take whistles into the Hoodoo area, just in case someone got lost.  Only Austin did and he was playing hide and seek.  Freaked me out, but he wasn't worried, he was just trying to find the best hiding spot.
Dum dum suckers helped Ellie feel better, for sure.
Okay, just for fun, Ellie freaking out at the Payson temple open house.  It makes me so happy to know that my family can be together forever.
