Derek and Zack skiing the weekend before their birthdays, Brighton Ski Resort. (Zack got lost.)
Derek also got skis for his birthday. He was so excited. When Zack got his skis, Derek had said, "Do you think maybe I can get skis when I am eleven?" We said, maybe. He was thrilled. Derek got almost exactly the same stuff as Zack....birthdays two days apart.....easier to just buy two of everything. :) On his actual birthday, Derek woke up early and we did breakfast together, presents and then headed off to Derek's basketball game. We went straight from the game to a viewing and then to Sandy to return Austin's rental skis from the night before (no one got lost on that ski trip.) We stopped and got lunch and then headed home for about an hour where Derek played and played and played until it was time to go to Zack's basketball game. We went straight from the game to the rec center to swim, because that was Derek's activity of choice for his birthday. Ellie LOVED the water. She basically had the best day of her life. After swimming, we were all exhausted. It was around 7 pm and we stopped at the grocery store to pick up some donuts in lieu of birthday cake, since I never had time to make it! We ate a quick dinner at home of cereal...and then had donuts, got everyone showered and put to bed. Whew! It was a busy, but fun day. As we ate our cereal, we all went around and told Derek what we love about him.
Derek is SO funny. (although he gets annoyed when people tell him that all the time.)
Derek is full of life and full of energy.
Derek is obedient, even when he doesn't want to be.
Derek LOVES his baby sister. He always runs to her when she cries.
Derek is cuddly. He loves nothing more than to be cuddled up on the couch with mom or dad.
Derek is independent. He could basically move out of the house right now and would probably be just fine.
Derek is sweet.
Derek is confident.
Oh, Derek sure brings a lot of life and laughter into our house. He is a fun, wonderful kid. We love Derek.
The day after his birthday, we had Sunday dinner and the Sorensen's to celebrate Zack, Carson and Derek, the three birthday boys three days in a row!
Grandma and Grandpa Sorensen gave the boys their new Scout shirts and books, they were soo excited! Last night they both went to their new Scout groups and had a great time. Derek is looking forward to his baptism this weekend!
