School is Out!!!!!!!

Hurray!  School is out for the summer.  I love, love, love summer break.  My grocery budget....does not love summer break.  These boys are going to eat me out of house and home...seriously.  Here is what we have planned this summer.........Nothing!  Since we are having a baby hopefully soon, we have made hardly any plans.  Matt may take the kids on a few little camping overnighters, but that is about it.  We will work hard and play hard and rest hard, too, but most of it will just be here at home.

Yesterday was the last day of school and I told the kids they get a week of lots of playing and just hanging out (along with a few big jobs...this morning I made them clean the basement....a huge job.)  Then next Thursday we will start our summer schedule.  We have lots of jobs to do everyday and we have to keep the garden alive :)  We also have a little bit of school work to do every day.  My goals for the kids as far a school work goes are:

Zack-typing and Spanish.  He is taking a break from piano lessons over the summer, but I will still have him practice 2x/week.  He has lots of books he wants to read and he writes all the time...so I think he will be good.

Derek:  Derek will be taking a reading and writing class at the school 5 days a week for 4 weeks to help with his reading.  We will read at home and also do a couple of math worksheets every day.

Austin:  Austin is just learning to sound out words, so we will keep working on that and also start learning some sight words and simple math.

Sydney:  She knows all her letters and sounds, she loves to have things to do while the boys are working on their school stuff, so I will find something for her to do.

Me;  keep 5 kids fed and the garden alive and that is about it.  :)

I told the kids the plan, but also told them that some days it just won't work and we are not going to stress about it.  Hurray for summer and being home together.  It will be awesome and crazy and chaotic.  Just how I like it.

I'm really excited for summer too! My kids got a one day break before the schedule started... but they're always eager to start their "homeschool." And I love that we get to have chores in the morning! Good luck with everything!

I remember when I realized that I could pretty much just spend all day every day in my kitchen cooking food for my hungry children. That is why we eat cereal for breakfast quite often and I don't feel bad about it.
