EMERGENCY!!

Matt is out of town. He went on a backpacking trip with his dad and my brother. Last night, around 8ish, I had put Austin to bed, Zack was coloring and Derek was making random mischief around the house, just normal Derek stuff. I was watching, "Celine Dion: My Story." I had rented it from RedBox earlier that day, curious to see it and knowing Matt would never watch it with me, so this was my chance! (Total waste of time, by the way, horrible acting....at least it was only a dollar!)
Anywho, as I was engrossed in the movie the doorbell rings and I went to see who was there. I was tempted not to answer, it was evening, I was home without Matt and I am paranoid. But, I looked out the peephole and didn't recognize who was on my door. I went to the window to peek out and get a better view. It was a police officer. I was concerned for two reasons, 1. something had to be wrong if the was a cop at my door, and 2. You hear stories of rapists who dress up as policemen to get in the door. I wasn't sure if I should open it, but I was also worried that if I didn't, he would break down my door. It helped that there was a police car outside with flashing lights, so if he was on my doorstep any longer, neighbors would begin coming over. So I opened it a crack and he asked if I was Mrs. Sorensen. (Rapists don't know your name, right?) I opened it a crack more and he asked if everything was okay in the residence as they had recieved an abandoned 911 call fifteen minutes earlier. Derek. Come to think of it, he had been playing with the phone.
Anyway, I was really embarassed to be caught being a negligent mother and the officer talked to me about the importance of teaching our children not to play with the phone. Thanks, officer, I will remember to pass that along to my 2 year old. Matt won't be home until Sunday. Things are off to a great start.

Sounds like there's never a dull moment at your house! I've always feared one of my children would do that. I do think it is pretty impressive that your 2 year old knew how to call 911, and could dial the numbers himself. I think the officer should have commended you for that!

Oh my gosh! I would die. I am always so afraid that's going to happen when my kids get ahold of the phone! I'm glad it wasn't a rapist, though. :)

That is a pretty funny story! Hema hasn't figures out how to dial 911 and I really don't have any desire to teach him, even though is would be great in an emergency.
