Oh, Austin

This is a funny, yet terribly sad story:

I picked Austin up from preschool today and his teacher came to my car to let me know that Austin had a little breakdown during preschool.  He is usually very laid back so I was surprised.  She said that they had been writing job applications to be elves in Santa's workshop and Austin started to cry and wouldn't do his project.

When we got home, I sat down with him and asked him what happened.  He wouldn't talk about it for a few minutes and finally it came out:  He thought he was going to be sent to be an elf at the North Pole and never return home again.  As he told me the story, he started to cry again.  I held him tight and told him he never has to be an elf and never has to leave our family.  I was shaking with laughter but crying at the same time, he was so devastated.

All is well now, he is safe at home and knows that he will never be an elf.  :)

I'm thinking 5 year old's should be writing letters to Santa asking for gifts. Resumes, really, pre-school.
