Some funny things the kids have said lately:
Zack quotes movie lines. Wonder where that came from? The other day he says, "mom, name this movie," and if a perfect British accent quotes a line from a Harry Potter movie, "What in the bloody h*!! is that all about?" I almost died laughing, but first we had a talk about WORDS WE DON'T SAY.
Derek has to help Matt with everything he does. I went to get him last night, to put him to bed, and he says, "Ah workin' ma dad." (I'm working with my dad.) It was so cute and matter-of-fact, I just let him keep working with Matt.
A few days earlier Matt brought the boys in after playing outside for several hours while he was yard-working. Derek was so brown, I said, Derek are you really that tan or are you just covered in dirt? He said, "Ah cobered dirt, mahm." (I'm covered in dirt, mom) and ran off laughing hysterically.
A month or two ago, I had been reading to the boys from "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." We were laying down to read some more, and I had serious doubts as to whether Derek was getting anything at all from it, when all of the sudden he says, "Witch nice Edmund?"
Last night I had a church meeting. When I got home, Matt told me that he came into the kitchen and found Derek surrounded by bread slices that had been dumped on the floor. "Derek!" says Matt. "Did you dump out all the bread?" "No," says Derek, "Zack did." (which is his standard reply for anything that goes wrong, whether Zack is around or not.) But Matt, trying to be fair turns to Zack and says, " Zack, did you dump out the bread?" "Well, yeah, but I made myself a delicious turkey sandwich!"
Until about a week ago, Matt has been using a tiller that is a hand-me-down from his dad. And 30+ years old. It is rusty and finicky and has even caught fire at least once. Anytime Matt wants to start it, which is several times a week, as we have been in yard work mode, he has to fiddle with it, usually using a pair of needle-nose pliers. Last week we finally broke down and bought a new tiller, to Matt's utter delight. He went to turn it on the other night and Derek ran to the garage. I followed him and saw him run to the tool bench, climb up, grab the needle nose pliers and head back to Matt. "Here dad!" he was so proud of himself. He knows the drill. We laugh ourselves silly over that kid.

Zach probably asked 20 people at school earlier what movie that line was from. I would have laughed, too.
I love the funny things that your kids say! They seem funnier than the normal funny things that other kids say. :) I love the, "Well, yeah, but I made myself a delicious turkey sandwich!" :) Ha ha! He felt justified.
brooke: thank goodness he isn't in school yet!!
