Horsetail Falls
EveryTrail - Find the best Hiking near Draper, Utah
This morning around 6:30 we decided it would be fun to go on an early hike. Matt went out to work in the yard for a few minutes while I got the kids up and fed and ready to go. Sydney had left her tennis shoes at Tara's house and I didn't want her to wear sandals. I went down to the basement and dug through the box of old shoes and voila! We have shoes in every size, they were boy shoes, but they fit her perfectly.
The kids were excited to go. The hike Matt had chosen was up in Alpine and he has wanted to take us up there for a while, but we always have soccer or baseball on Saturday mornings. We were free today so we decided to go for it. Just as we were heading out the door, the icky sickness that has run through the family hit me. Sydney and I opted out. She really wanted to go, but she and I had fun at home.
The hike is actually called Horsetail Falls, but the kids nicknamed it Slip N Slide Falls and it stuck.
They were awesome little hikers. The hike was about 5.5 miles and they did great. They were pretty wiped out by the end. In fact, Derek is till sleeping on the couch as I type.
On the way down, Austin lost his footing on this bridge and tumbled down the side a few feet. (Not the tumble pictured, that was another one ). He tucked and rolled and turned it into an awesome stunt move. He is very tough. Matt cleaned up blood three times on the hike and then a fourth after when they stopped for lunch. :)
1. Austin's back when he fell off the bridge
2. Zack bloodied up his elbow.
3. Zack lost a tooth on the hike. He was freaking out because he thought it was a permanent tooth. It wasn't.
4. Austin left his muddy shoes in the car during lunch and as he opened the door to Chick Fil A the metal edge sliced the top of his foot. Very eventful day.
I freaked out when I saw the above photo. Matt said it wasn't that high and that he could touch their feet.....eeek.
