Holy cow! Is summer almost over? We have been running, like everyone else I know, all summer long. When we went up to the Lodge the second time, many family members came away with a virus. It hit us too. Cough, fever, sore throat, runny nose. Sydney was first, then Derek and Austin. Zack was the last to catch it and is still currently sick. Derek seemed to have the hardest time getting better. They were all sick enough that I made them skip Kailee and Zach's rehearsal dinner on Friday night and brought them out long enough for the ceremony and pictures on Saturday. (Okay, maybe I took them to a parade that morning, they were dying to go and had been cooped up so long!) Austin was so tired all during the wedding, I could tell he didn't feel well. That also may have been due to him crying most of the night. Crying kids at night when you are away from home just stinks. Just as the wedding dinner was being served, he started screaming, saying his ear hurt. It was draining pretty consistently and he has tubes in his ears, so we just gave him motrin and watched him. I ran him over to the ENT as soon as they opened this morning, (they didn't have any openings, but they let us come if we could get there right then.) Poor kid has an ear infection, but also has a perforated ear drum. The tube had begun to fall out and tore the ear drum or something like that. We got him taken care of and he already seems to be doing better. I was still worried about Derek who has not been feeling great (which also means extra naughty) and for good measure decided that he and Zack should go to the doctor as well. So after several hours at different doctors offices today, a trip to the pharmacy and labeling all the meds so as not confuse them, the verdict is:
Ear infection/perforated ear drum for Austin
Ear infection for Zack
Double ear infection/sinus infection for Derek.
FUN. There are five bottles of medicine in my fridge plus new antibiotic ear drops for Austin. Today was an expensive day. Thank goodness for good insurance and MOTRIN.
They are all napping right now. Which means Zack stayed in his room reading until he about went crazy then went to play in the basement. Austin snuck out to play with Zack. Derek really is napping, if he is sleeping, he must be really sick. Sydney, of course, is the best napper/sleeper I have ever had. I think she is just really good at tuning out all the noise her brothers make. Boo to sick kids, hurray for meds, get well soon little kiddos, we still have lots of playing to do before school takes you away from me!

I hope they get feeling better- we just had that same thing go through our house. The summer is too close to being over to spend it cooped up inside sick!
It is absolutely exhausting to have sick kids! You will be ready for school to start so you can have a little break!
