The Story of Sydney

On our way to the hospital. (I look so happy because I was being induced!) I had a quick 2 hour labor with Austin and had been told over and over to expect a nice fast labor. Ummm....not so much. Miss Sydney took her time. The nurse quit checking me after I reached a 6 (about 7 hours in to the process) and said to call her when I felt pressure. "So I just wait here, then?" (Name that movie).
Matt and I watched a movie, I sent him to get some magazines, watched lots of Food Network and I tried not to covet the times Matt left to go eat. I had reached the max dosage of pitocin and was starting to hurt quite a lot. They asked if I was ready for the epidural and I said no, not yet. I tend to get really numb and wanted to avoid completely dead legs. After about an hour of the harsh contractions I realized that I wouldn't be able to sit still through an epidural if I waited much longer. So I called them in. It worked out well, because while I was getting mine, three more women requested them and I would have had to wait quite a while. After no progress for hours, the doctor came in to break my water (I was at a 3). He walked in and my water broke on its own. (same thing happened with Zack, just as the doctor walked in.) We still had a ways to go, though. But now I was feeling soooooooo good!
After what seemed like hours (just over 9 hours, a long labor for me) I finally felt pressure. The nurse checked and I was still at a 6 and baby Sydney was still really high. :( I was determined I wouldn't call her back until the pressure was unbearable. About thirty minutes later I felt what had to be Sydney shooting down the birth canal and more pressure than I could imagine. I called the nurse in and she said, you are ready, let me get the doctor. Dr. M came in about 15 minutes later and said, well, she still looks pretty high. Try and push through this contraction and let's see if she will come down a little more. I started to push and he said, whoa!! Here is her head, push again! And out she came in one contraction. She let our a little scream, the doctor cleared her mouth with his finger and she bit him! They handed her over and she looked exactly how I pictured her. The boys were surprised when called to tell them she was here. We had told them just a few minutes before that she would probably be there in about an hour. Thanks, Sydney for a nice short delivery!
The boys were so excited to be at the hospital. They had already gotten ready for bed when we called them.
They ate all my crushy hospital ice. They love it as much as I do.
In the nursery, getting cleaned up.
The nurses did all kinds of funky things with her hair.
The next day: I have how many children?
The boys are going to maul her to pieces, I just know it. Everyone fights to be close to her.
Proud big brothers.
Derek shields her eyes from the camera.
Twins. Sydney looks a lot like Derek did.
Last, but certainly not least. These beautiful flowers were delivered to my room. I check the card and they are from Matt's office. Aren't the gorgeous?

Matt has week off of work so we are just snuggling baby Sydney, I am taking lots of naps and just enjoying being together as a family.

People shouldn't look that good when they are about to have a baby. I mean, really, you looked fantastic.

I am glad everything went well- a little good network, a little crushed ice, and one push contraction- viola! Sydney is lovely and I hope you are getting some good rest in between all that snuggling time.
