Well, I am so excited to say that we are heading to Uruguay next month, this time Matt and the kids are included. The boys are so excited to see their Grandparents and Uncle Mike. We have all kinds of fun things planned. The only hitch is....travel time is around 22 hours with three different flights, including one 9 1/2 hour overnighter flight. We will be traveling with my sister and her family also, so that makes a total of 4 adults and 6 children, six years old and under. If anyone has any great travel tips, PLEASE share them now!!
*Lots of food, snacks, treats, etc.
*Lots of distractions...I was thinking sticker books, small toys, Go Fish, and of course, the portable DVD player.
Anything else? Please share!

How fun!!! I'm so happy that your hubby and kids can go too. Check this out...http://hanchetthousehold.blogspot.com/2009/07/i-spy-with-my-little-eye.html
It looks pretty fun. I bet Zack would enjoy it. Also, another idea is wrapping a bunch of fun activities. And every hour (or 2), they get to unwrap ONE present. My mom told me that is what her parents did for their long car rides. It was fun for them to open something and anticipate the next thing. The catch was, once they opened it, they had to play with it for awhile. They couldn't unwrap another thing, just because they didn't want what they opened. It's worth a shot. I'd hit up the dollar store. Good luck! :)
Um, um, i have a hard time with my flights across the US, much less across a world. Good luck!
the DVD player is key!!! Some other ideas are things you might see in a sacrament meeting. Shoe-lacing cards (you can use craft foam and punch holes in it). I just learned how to make an eye-spy bag. But use RICE as a filler so it's not as expensive as those other fillers.
I've heard of the travel fairy. I think she leaves a present on road trips whenever the family takes a pit-stop. She always leaves a present in their seat when you come back, so it's actually exciting to get back in the car. I don't know if she can visit airplanes, you might have to look into that. :)
I wonder if they allow little boys to race through the airplane aisle yet? Man, little boys just need to RUN!
My suggestion is not to overdo it. I've done this before where I pack all this stuff to try and keep the kids "busy" and they like it for about a minute and then it turns into junk I have to pack around all day and night. Keep it simple. I have a small backpack for each of my kids and they put a few things they like in it. They have to carry it themselves, but they love that (it's their suitcase) and then Colby and I aren't lugging a huge bags around. I flew coast to coast with my kids (all by myself) last month and one thing they loved was I brought some cup o noodles and asked the flight attendant for hot water, so they got to eat it on the plane. I'm sure on an international flight they will give you food, but my kids loved it.
Also, make sure you bring your DVD charger because mine died on my first connection, so we were stuck on a 4 hour flight with no DVD player. They actually did fine, but the movies always help. Also, a wise pediatrician told me a long time ago to bring lollipops on plane rides to help the kids ears pop when elevation changes. It works!
Okay, that's my advice. It's way too long. I hope you have a great trip! Tell your Mom and Dad hi for me.
