Today, Zack is going on a fieldtrip. The entire first grade is going to see a play. He has been very excited to go and to get to take a lunch. I picked up some special things at the store last night, so he would have a special fieldtrip lunch. As he was eating breakfast, I made his lunch, but he wouldn't look because he insisted it should be a surprise.
On the meun:
Ham and swiss sandwich (with a few pepperoni sprinkled in, his favorite)
Grapes
Applesauce (another favorite of his)
Juice Box
Chocolate Cupcake
As he was saying his morning prayers, I overheard his say, "Please bless I will have a tasty lunch." Hopefully, this one is acceptable.
Also this morning, we were ready his "Take Home Reading" book. It was called "Moving Day." He started out by reading, "movinger day." I corrected him and he said, "But mom, that is weird it should have two o's." How right you are, my boy. I never realized how hard it is to explain that English has NO RULES that are consistent. But is sure is fun to hear him reading!

Phonics makes no sense to me, and as we are teaching Claire to read, I have to keep telling her there are exceptions to the rules that I can't explain.
