Memorial Day 2009

This year, for Memorial Day, we headed out to Promontory Point with the whole Sorensen Gang. It was a cool place and the boys loved the trains for course. We had gotten a late start that morning and so we missed most of the time at the Sorensen graves, we got there just as everyone was leaving. We had stopped at my Grandma and Grandpa Peterson's graves on the way and ran into Tara and Brad there, completely unplanned. Here are the kids by Grandma and Grandpa Peterson's headstone. (FYI, unknown to all of us, Jace, (Tara's youngest) had fractured his elbow that morning. He has a cast up to his armpit now.)

About ten years ago, my Grandma Peterson asked me to take flowers to her parent's graves in Provo. She was having a hard time getting around and was worried that they wouldn't have flowers there, (she is an only child). So for the last ten years, I head down to Provo and leave flowers, usually the Sunday before Memorial Day. This year, I asked my brothers to bring the flowers to the graves. I was excited because it got them excited about their great-grandparents who died before they were born. While they were at the gravesite, they called my dad and he told them stories about his grandparents and my brothers came home interested to learn more about them. I really enjoy learning about our family and Matt's family too. He thinks I am weird because I like to read this huge book of his family history, including the pedigree charts, just for fun.
I have a huge box of charts and books from when my Grandma passed away. I have gone through it several times and organized it and read the info in there. I want to compile a book for my family....someday. It was great to teach my kids a little about their ancestors and Derek keeps asking, "Who died? Mom? Who died?"
