Yesterday was Matt's birthday. The big 3-1. I asked him once if he gets weirded out now that he is so old and he just said, Laurie, we have three kids, it feels normal to be this old. Then he always reminds me that I am almost as old as he is. (give or take a few years.) We made him breakfast in bed and let him open one present before work. When he got home we had pizza and then gave him the rest of his presents. (He had bought himself a volleyball net a month earlier, so we went light on the gift-giving.) Zack was so excited to give Matt his gift. A few weeks ago Zack had come up with the perfect gift he wanted to give to his dad. It was an American flag. Matt is a cub scout leader and they practice the flag ceremony with a stick in our basement. Zack wanted him to have a flag for them to practice the flag ceremony with. I thought that was pretty cute and Matt was impressed that Zack had come up with such a thoughtful gift on his own. After the gift-giving was over we went to play tennis as a family. It was really fun and Zack loved it. Derek just walked around holding a racket saying, "I play tennis." Next we went home and had apple pie in lieu of cake and that was pretty much it.
Matt is such a great person, husband and father. He is always fun, ready for adventure and very hard-working. Happy Birthday Mateo, you are THE BEST!!
